Abstract
The purpose of this study was to test the relative abrasivity of domestic dentifrice
marketing in Korea. The authors had measured dentifrice abrasivity on dentin of 20
kinds of dentifrice. Assessments of the abrasion on dentin produced by different
dentifrices were carried out on extracted teeth in the laboratory and tested by
radioactive dentin abrasion(RDA) methods. The radioactive dentin abrasion scores of the
dentifrices were determined using the ADA specifications. RDA scores were related to a
standard abrasive, dicalcium phosphate, anhydrous(CaHPO4), which was assigned a score
of 100 for the RDA method. The RDA scores of the dentifrices tested varied from 7.0 to
119.8. The abrasivity of all tested dentifrices marketing in Korea were acceptable. It was
suggested that the dentifrices were divided to 4 groups by their RDA scores to
recommend to the public.
